Potters for Peace mourns the death of long-time volunteer Sue Howell

Posted by Abby Silver

Sue-SF2Sue was a much-loved member of the PFP community, and we will miss her!  She was an important volunteer, serving as the Denver Sale coordinator for 20 years, and was always enthusiastic to do outreach and contribute in other ways as well.  Her firm and positive commitment to our mission – both the filter program and the work with Nicaraguan potters – was enduring and inspiring.  One of her final acts in this life was to help with the First Annual Santa Fe sale in early October 2015.

Sue was a potter, a teacher, a musician;  a mother and grandmother, a sister and aunt, a friend to many.  Throughout her life, Sue was a lover of animals, including an orphan fawn who she bottle fed in her early twenties, and the two ferrets and a dog with whom she shared her home most recently.

She died peacefully in home hospice on November 27, 2015 from a rare bacterial brain infection after spending more than a month in a coma.  It is with great sadness that we say goodbye.  Paz, amiga!

    Abby,

Thank you for posting a lovely tribute to Sue. She was a wonderful person and a good friend to my wife and I when we lived near her in Morrison, CO. We kept in touch over the years and visited each other after we moved away. I spoke with Sue just a few weeks before she became ill. I can’t believe she is gone. I will miss her.

If she had any pottery for sale, I would love to purchase a piece to cherish her memory. Please email me if this is possible.

    Many thanks to you,
    Dean Pallozzi
